The AI Does Not Hate You (a briefing on current events and discussion on potential paths forward)

​Are you new to the topic of AI safety? Are you wondering what the deal is with all these tech leaders sounding the alarm? Do you think the case is hopeless?

​Fear not! I (Alex) have been steeped in this topic since before ChatGPT existed, and I just recently completed several courses on technical AI safety and governance. I'll give a short brief on what AI safety is, why we should care about it, what we should do about it, and how it is - in fact - not hopeless!

​We will be located in the upper conference room of Minsky's in River Market. Tell the host you are here for the book club, or the conference room, and they will direct you.The room does get full waitstaff service, but has a max tab of 5. Be prepared to share a small tab with some people; bringing cash is easiest, Venmo is second-easiest.

​Please do not hesitate to come! Even if you don't identify as an Effective Altruist or Rationalist, or if you think you aren't "smart enough" or you aren't a "typical" attendee, or you think you'll be awkward or weird. We want you here!
