My Team Is Overwhelmed. How Do I Lead Through Uncertainty?
A sensemaking session for managers caught between the push for speed and a team that's stretched thin.
I've been sitting with a lot of managers this year — in workshops, in coaching, in the conversations that happen after events. The same thing keeps coming up, in different words: everyone wants more from me right now. Leadership wants speed — AI, new tools, more output with the same people. The team wants clarity, a say, and a little more time. And the manager is in the middle, doing most of the deciding, most of the communicating, most of the steadying.
Some of your people are anxious. A few are pushing back. One or two have gone quiet in a way you've noticed but haven't found the moment to ask about. And if you're honest, some of the overwhelm is yours too. Most managers I meet have nowhere to say that out loud.
This session is a place to.
This is a 90-minute facilitated sensemaking session — not a lecture, not another presentation about managing change. A room of people with the same job you have, working with what's actually on your plate right now.
What we'll do together
Put down what you're carrying. Map what's landing on you from above, what's rising from below, and the part you never say at work.
Be heard without being fixed. In pairs — one person speaks, one reflects back. No advice. It's simple, and it changes something.
Read your team differently. Resistance is usually information — mixed feelings without a safe place to go. You'll map who's pushing back, who's gone quiet, who's quietly ahead of you, and what each of those might be protecting.
Practice the honest thing. Draft what you'd actually say to your team: what you know, what you don't, what won't change without them hearing it from you first. Say it out loud to a partner. Notice which sentence sounds like a press release — and find the truer one underneath.
Leave with one conversation you'll have in the next two weeks.
One reason the session looks like this: in the registration data from our last eight workshops — 361 people — managers were the only group where trust, resistance, and communication came up for more than half. And what managers asked for most wasn't a framework. It was time with peers in the same position. So that's what this is.
