Collective Conversations: About Our Complexions
Colorism, Texturism, Featurism & Identity
Join us on April 2nd from 5:00–7:00 PM in the Black Student Space for Collective Conversations: Collective Conversations: About Our Complexions
Colorism, texturism, and featurism are realities that many people in the Black community experience, yet they are often difficult to talk about openly. Skin tone bias and hair discrimination can shape how we are perceived by others and how we come to see ourselves — influencing confidence, belonging, and the ways we navigate our identities.
For many Black students, conversations about complexion and hair texture are tied to deeper questions about beauty, identity, and acceptance — both within our communities and in broader society. These experiences can affect how we move through spaces, how we understand our place within the Black diaspora, and how we relate to one another.
This dialogue invites us to reflect on how colorism and texturism show up in our lives, how they shape our sense of self, and how we can begin to unpack these experiences together in community.
Because understanding our differences — and our shared experiences — helps us build stronger community.
Food will be provided. Tickets are required.
Come ready to listen, reflect, and engage in meaningful conversation.
