About Event

Come join us at this indoor-outdoor workshop as we learn about the global history of silk while bundle dying our own 100% handwoven mulberry silk scarves using fresh flower eco-printing and natural dyes. Each student will leave with a 21 x 21 inch scarf, as well as instructions for making more at home.

The mulberry silk is not only fascinating to learn about, but it has luxurious drape and feel that will make it one of the most treasured items in your closet! For those more conscious of budget, cotton scarves are also an option at checkout.

Our workshop will review:

  • The history of silk, including how it’s been shaped by colonialism and capitalism

  • The science of silk, and why it’s such an incredible fiber

  • The ethics of buying silk today and sustainable, slow-fashion

  • Basics of natural dyeing including fabric prep, mordants, and modifiers

  • Overview of natural dye plants and how to extract plant dye

  • How to naturally bundle dye fabric with fresh locally grown flowers & plants

  • Your own bundle dyed 100% Mulberry silk 21x21 inch scarf, with instructions to do it again at home
