LGD Accessibility Meetup: Making maps accessible
Accessible Maps
This month’s Accessibility Meetup will focus on the accessibility challenges of map-based content. Maps are often difficult to use for people relying on keyboards or screen readers, and interactive elements such as pins and filters can present additional barriers.
We will hear from:
Alastair Veal, Islington Council – on how they made the map controls on their tree map search accessible to keyboard-only users and provided alternatives for screen reader users
Chris McEwan, Westmorland and Furness Council – on improving the accessibility and usability of map pins and directory filters
If you have worked on improving the accessibility of maps or map-based content, we would love you to share your approach too. Get in touch with Aaron via [email protected] or on Slack.
All welcome – whether you are a developer, designer, content person or product lead.
