Andrew J. Rodriguez is an Afro-Dominican filmmaker from the Boogie Down Bronx whose work blends social realism with speculative storytelling to explore history, identity, and community. Drawing from Caribbean diaspora histories, archival research, and lived experience, he creates worlds that reimagines communities through emotionally grounded stories.
His short film EL TIGUERE premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival as part of the 2025 COLECTIVO Fellowship, presented in partnership with Lin-Manuel Miranda. He is the recipient of the 2025 Vimeo Short Film Grant for SPACEBOI, and his pilot PLUS received the 2019 Tribeca Sloan Discovery Award. He was also a 2020 Valentine & Clark Emerging Filmmaker Fellow at the Jacob Burns Film Center and served as a staff writer on the first season of the Love in Gravity podcast. Across his work, Andrew is committed to telling stories that honor the past while imagining expansive futures for underserved communities.
