About Event

Automating the architectural practice Eight questions architects ask about AI, answered live in the tools you already use.

You trained to design buildings, not to retype fees, chase approvals and log drawings. Most practices already have the tools: Outlook or Gmail, Excel, WhatsApp, Xero. The admin sits in the gaps between them. That gap is what we automate, using AI where it helps and plain rules where it doesn't.

How it works We take eight questions architects actually ask. For each one we open a small automation built in n8n, run it on screen, and go through what went in and what came out. Every demo uses one made-up practice, Naidoo Mokoena Architects in Umhlanga, and one client project, a new house in Zimbali. All names and numbers are invented.

What we'll answer

  1. POPIA: Where does my client's data actually go? We show the risky way first, then flip one switch so nothing that identifies your client reaches the AI.

  2. Boundaries: Where's the line? AI drafts and the architect decides. Nothing goes to a client until you say yes.

  3. Fees: Can AI help with fees and estimates? Yes, but AI never does the maths. A formula works out every rand and AI writes the letter.

  4. Project info: How do we keep it consistent? One record feeds your tender, website and award copy, and every number gets checked.

  5. Early design: Which AI tools help with plans, layouts and massing? They're good for options, not decisions. Council rules and SANS 10400 stay with you.

  6. People: What does this mean for drafting staff and juniors? An honest conversation about what changes.

  7. Reliability: What happens when it goes wrong? We break it on purpose and show what the system does next.

  8. Cost: What does it cost and what does it save? We do the sum live, using your hourly rate.

The closing build: a proposal engine To finish, we join the pieces into one workflow. A client brief goes in, client details are stripped out, the fee is calculated, AI writes the letter, and the architect approves it before it goes out. Your first meeting turns into a reviewed proposal ready to send, in minutes.

Who it's for Principals and practice managers at small and mid-size practices. You don't need to code. If you've used Excel, you'll follow along. We'll keep time at the end for questions about your own practice.
