PhD Defense Mikkel Sohrt
PhD Defence
The public defense of Mikkel Sohrt's PhD thesis will be held on the 1st of June 2026 and the topic directly addresses a fundamental tension in engineering-driven organizations: how to systematically prioritize and balance modular architecture decisions to maximize both short-term cost benefits and long-term strategic value. This research goes beyond generic modularization principles and it has an impressive track record for addressing the specific complexities ETO companies face across engineering, operations, and supply chain collaboration.
As Peter Karlsen, ROCKWOOL Vice President Group Technology, has observed:
"What started as a research initiative has become a driving force for organizational change. This project has catalyzed a genuine shift in how we approach architecture decisions. Our department directors are now actively championing the implementation of the initiatives we've investigated. The fact that we're seeing quantifiable business benefits in the short term, not just the longer-term strategic benefits, validates that we've built a capability the organization will continue to use and build upon."
The PhD is supervised by Niels Henrik Mortensen @DTU Construct. The defense will take place on Monday, June 1st, at 13:00 at The Technical University of Denmark Building 421, Auditorium 071. We hope you'll join us for an opportunity to engage directly with like-minded peers.
