PauseAI Anchorage Protest
Join PauseAI Anchorage in a public demonstration to demand an international treaty to pause frontier AI development.
Humanity stands at a crossroads. Unless we work together, reckless development of artificial intelligence (AI) could endanger us all. A handful of companies are racing to be first to build superintelligent AI – systems vastly more powerful than human beings. Meanwhile, leading AI scientists and whistleblowers warn that these systems could escape our control and cause the end of human civilization.
In late September, Chinese President Xi Jinping will visit the US to discuss AI. Recent incidents have also shown that the world's leading AI labs are unable to control their own models during development. In July, OpenAI's own models broke out of a secure testing environment and autonomously hacked into another company's servers. Days later, 1,350 employees of frontier AI labs signed a statement requesting that the U.S. government support an international effort to deliberately pace AI development. Afterwards, Anthropic reported three more instances of this happening with its own models.
Despite all this, AI companies are pushing forward, building more and more powerful models without a way to control them.
We are urging our congressional representatives to support negotiations on an international treaty to pause AI development.
The current trajectory of artificial intelligence development threatens our society, and could lead to mass unemployment, catastrophic accidents, and even human extinction. Scientists, politicians, and business leaders agree that "Mitigating the risk of extinction from AI should be a global priority alongside other societal-scale risks such as pandemics and nuclear war." See the statement here.
Join us in encouraging international regulation.
About PauseAI Anchorage
PauseAI Anchorage is a local group of the nationwide grassroots movement PauseAI US, working to pause the development of AI.
Society is already dealing with the problems of existing AI. Meanwhile, AI companies are creating more and more capable systems that could lead to catastrophes.
We demand an AI pause to determine if the technology can be built safely (if at all) and democratically decide its future. Learn how an AI pause would work.

PS We will provide signs. If you have your own sign that you want to bring or want something that differs from the standard "Pause AI", please talk to me beforehand to make sure it aligns with our messaging.
