The Cover Letter- Your Personal Pitch
Welcome to the Service Design Careers’ 2026 series.
This is a 5-part webinar series designed to help service designers (and designers from tangential fields like product design, UI/UX design, and design research) build their career narrative and land their dream role.
This specific ticket is for the third session of the series: ‘The Cover Letter- Your Personal Pitch’.(Note: If you’d like to book a bundled ticket and receive a 20% discount, you can find the link here: https://luma.com/il4u6uys
Your CV shows what you’ve done. Your cover letter explains why it matters for this particular role. Done well, it’s your best chance to sound like a person rather than a list of bullet points.
This session shows you how to write cover letters that are structured, tailored and persuasive, without starting from scratch every time.
What we’ll cover
Understanding the objective: how a cover letter complements your CV
Making it ATS-friendly: formatting and wording that works with automated screening
Structure, paragraph by paragraph: what belongs where, and why
Showing employer–employee fit: connecting your experience, values and skills to what the organisation needs
Articulating your design practice: explaining your design philosophy in a way hiring managers connect with
Adapting for different roles: tailoring your language and focus efficiently for each application
Who it’s for
Designers who dread writing cover letters, or who write them but aren’t getting responses.

About your host
I’m Disha, a senior service designer at the Cabinet Office (UK Civil Service) and founder of Service Design Careers. I’ve worked across the public and private sectors, including sustainability, pharma, mobility and luxury, with organisations like Google, Spotify, Sanofi and Camden Council. I lecture at the Royal College of Art, UAL, Glasgow School of Art, Politecnico di Milano and KISD, and have spoken at TEDx, Service Design Network and SDinGov.
I started Service Design Careers because I kept meeting talented designers who struggled to turn their skills into the right role. These sessions distil what I’ve learned from mentoring them.
