WTO/99 Documentary Screening
Hello Soapbox Seattle! There's a new documentary called "WTO/99" about the 1999 World Trade Organization protest in Seattle. It's screening for a limited time at The Beacon in Columbia City.
The 1999 WTO protest is fascinating to me because:
It happened right here in Seattle.
It was (according to David Korten, author of When Corporations Rule the World) one of the most effective demonstrations in the history of the world against corporate globalization.
April's Soapbox theme was corporate accountability, and May's theme is labor. When corporations and labor clash, you get things like the 1999 WTO protests.
If you'd like to come watch WTO/99 with Soapbox friends:
Buy your ticket from The Beacon's website: https://thebeacon.film/calendar/movie/wto-99 The plan is for Soapbox to go on May 16, but there are a few other options if you can't make it on the 16th. Don't delay---it'll probably sell out!
On May 16, meet us for dinner at 5:30 at Bananas Grill, just north of the Columbia City light rail station. We'll head over to the cinema around 6:30. It's a twelve-minute walk.
