Carried, Not Told — Opening Reception with Cécile Roberfroid
Join us for the opening of Carried, Not Told, Cécile Roberfroid's first solo exhibition with Collective Z.
"What do we carry without ever saying it out loud?" Roberfroid's paintings answer that question in oil. Luminous fields of citrus yellow, ochre, rose and green are layered and scraped back until something surfaces: a shoulder, a hand, two figures holding each other. In the black-and-white canvases the color falls away and the figures come fully forward. In the works on paper, torn maps and stitched sheets gather into a sleeping body.
Trained at the School of Visual Arts, with graduate degrees in psychology and art therapy from Columbia and NYU, Roberfroid paints the part of an experience that never gets said out loud. It is held, not declared.
The artist will be present, and white wine will be served.
Free and open to the public. Please RSVP.
