Urban Design & Mobility Forum: Tree's and Streets
The quarterly Urban Design and Mobility Forum, convened between the Mayor’s Office and Young Urbanists, creates space to cross-pollinate between City departments and explore new ways of doing. It gives officials and public-sector partners an opportunity to align, share challenges, and identify opportunities for collaboration and innovation in shaping Cape Town’s public realm.
The final Forum for 2025 will focus on accelerating the delivery of nature-based solutions (NBS) in road and street design. Streets make up the largest share of public space in the city, yet remain dominated by hard surfaces and vehicles. This session will explore how integrating trees, landscaping, stormwater-sensitive design, and ecological infrastructure can help achieve resilience, walkability, and climate adaptation.
The discussion will aim to define practical steps to embed NBS as a core design principle in the way Cape Town’s streets are planned, designed, and maintained.
