Heritage Bike Tour: Kadıköy Coastline by All Things Urban Istanbul Chapter
Join the All Things Urban Istanbul Chapter and Urban.koop for a slow-paced heritage bike tour along one of Istanbul's most beloved coastlines.
Together we'll ride from Yeldeğirmeni to Caddebostan, weaving through the layered urban fabric of Kadıköy. Along the way, we'll stop at seven points that tell the story of this side of the city, from the iconic Haydarpaşa Train Station and the Kadıköy waterfront, including conversations around the mosque project at Rıhtım, through Moda and its historic pier, into Yoğurtçu Park and its feminist spatial history, past Fenerbahçe, and finally to a collective picnic in Caddebostan.
This is an invitation to read the city differently, through short talks at each stop, conversations with fellow urbanists, and the simple act of moving slowly through familiar streets together.
What to expect
A coastal route at an easy pace, short talks at each stop, and a picnic to close the afternoon with the group. Along the route, we’ll reflect on:
• The bikeability of Istanbul’s Anatolian coastline
• Urban memory and coastal transformation
• Everyday urban life and public space along the coast
When
Saturday, 16 May
2:00 PM
The tour will approximately take place between 2 PM and 5:15 PM, and afterwards we’ll gather together for the picnic 🧺
What to bring
Your bike, your curiosity, and something to share for the picnic if you'd like.
Don’t have a bike? Bike rental options will be available for participants:
-The nearest bike shop to our starting point where you can rent a bike is Acıbadem Atilla Bisiklet. We recommend contacting the bike shop in advance.
-Another option is using shared bike systems such as TAZI, although this may be more expensive. There might also be some availability issues.
There are also local bike shops in Kadıköy, such as Gürsel Akay Bisiklet and Bisiklethane. However, if you rent a bike from a shop far from our starting point, please make sure to arrive at the meeting point on time with your bike already prepared for the tour.
Who it's for
Urbanists, students, professionals, and anyone curious about Kadıköy's coastline and the communities shaped around it. All paces welcome.
