About Event

There is over a billion dollars worth of Open Source Software being used in Glendale every day.

Learn exactly how to bring that billion dollar value directly into Glendale's tech ecosystem and leverage it individually and collectively as a Glendale tailored Open Source consortium.

One year after community stakeholders founded the Glendale Open Source(GOS) consortium at last year's GTW, we give an update on our progress bringing software, technology, open collaboration and global economic workforce development to stakeholders in Glendale.

This presentation is for: technology developers, decision makers, investors and anyone leveraging Open Source technology and collaboration including those in tech startups all the way up to our community's biggest businesses.

Highlighted industries include: Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, robotics/ROS and simulations, data visualization, virtual film and video game production, Media & Entertainment, user generated content, web development, and open innovation of all kinds.

Highlighted technologies include: TensorFlow, PyTorch, openUSD, Open 3D Engine(O3DE), ROS - Robot OS, Blender 3D, FFMPEG video, Academy Software Foundation and Linux Foundation projects, web frameworks, and other technologies used every day in Glendale.

Everyone who attends in person will get detailed information on what the consortium can do for them and will help decide what they want it to be this coming year.

Everyone registered who does not attend in person will get a summary email of what is discussed and decided.
So please register if you want to find out more.

The event is organized by the SCB group and members of the Glendale Open Source consortium. The meeting space is generously provided by Max Kator and New York Life Southern California.

Key Concepts:

Definition: Consortium
An association of two or more individuals, companies, organizations, or governments (or any combination of these entities) with the objective of participating in a common activity or pooling their resources for achieving a common goal.
Consortia are generally nonprofit with a goal to help its members improve their competitiveness in the specific field.

Definition: Open Source Movement
A social movement that supports the use of open-source licenses[free to download and use] for some or all software, as part of the broader notion of open collaboration.

The SoCal Blender group(SCB) is a global group of contractors and consultants committed to providing opportunities to communities that might not otherwise have by way of the world wide Open Source Movement.

Open Collaboration pathways and Open Source Software provide opportunities for people of any means to produce professional quality work and deliverables.
This enables a more even playing field for the average person and a type of decentralization and democratization of industries, even disrupting some, by focusing more on talent and production quality than if someone is part of an established corporate workforce or using industry standard software.
