去沙漠里找 ✷ GO DESERT, GO WEST
Documentary Screening & Director Q&A at Now Place 此间
Between shrinking public space and tightening borders, is there still a promised land to be found for liberal young Chinese?
Join us at Now Place 此间 for a special screening of GO DESERT, GO WEST《去沙漠里找》, a documentary directed by Yifan Gu, followed by a filmmaker Q&A and community conversation.
The film follows a group of young Chinese migrants living and working in Silicon Valley as they travel together to Burning Man for the first time to build a camp and an art installation.
When a once-in-a-decade extreme weather event disrupts their plans, what begins as a journey into the desert becomes an unexpected exploration of collaboration and conflict, breakdown and rebuilding, autonomy and connection.
Amid sandstorms and rain, a temporary community takes shape.
What does it mean to search for freedom and belonging far from home? How do we build communities in unfamiliar places, and what happens when the structures we create begin to fall apart?
Following the screening, we'll gather for a Q&A with director Yifan Gu and an open conversation about migration, collective making, temporary communities, and the search for a promised land.
This screening takes place alongside the film's simultaneous online and offline release.
