ODDS AND ENDS | A Workshop on Memory, Clutter, and Keeping
ODDS AND ENDS (aka Chop Suey)
A casual crafting session in celebration of clutter, hoarding, and detritus.
Calling all sentimentalists, hoarders, collectors, and tooth fairies.
This workshop invites you to bring the discarded and forgotten treasures from your junk drawers, back pockets, and dusty boxes into the light. Are you holding onto broken seashells, ticket stubs, extra buttons, broken jewelry, tiny figurines, old keys, charms, receipts, or other bits of ephemera? Instead of asking why you've kept them, we'll ask: what might they become?
Together, we'll sort through our personal collections, share the stories behind these random and beautiful fragments, and transform them into new wearable objects and keepsakes. Using string, chains, jump rings, findings, charms, and other small materials, we'll compose accessories that carry pieces of our histories into new forms.
How might old memories be reassembled into something we can wear, gift, or carry with us? What happens when forgotten objects find new relationships with one another? And how can making together change the way we think about the things we choose to keep?
Please bring:
Small sentimental objects, found materials, or miscellaneous treasures you'd like to work with
(Optional) Jewelry pliers or other small hand tools, if you have them
What we'll do:
Share the stories behind our collections
Trade and remix found objects
Learn simple jewelry and accessory-making techniques
Leave with one or more handmade keepsakes
No prior experience necessary—just bring your clutter.
