AI agents are moving from demo to deployment in medicine — triaging patients, drafting clinical notes, navigating prior authorizations, and autonomously executing multi-step workflows that once required human hands at every stage. But between the hype and the hospital floor sits a maze of open questions: reliability, liability, regulation, and trust.
This panel brings together the people building, deploying, and evaluating AI agents in clinical settings to unpack what agents can actually do today, where they break, and what it will take for autonomous systems to earn a place in the care pathway.

Panelists
Kadeen Mckeen Kaden McKeen is a fourth-year PhD candidate at the University of Toronto and the Vector Institute, supervised by Dr. Anna Goldenberg and Dr. Bo Wang. His current project builds agents for clinical ECG interpretation and studies them through LLM behavioral evaluation.
He is first author of ECG-FM, an open foundation model for electrocardiograms. Passionate about clinical deployment, he is currently working to deploy ECG-FM in-hospital. More broadly, he is interested in AI agents and how using them affects our brains; he also develops work-buddy, a self-improving meta-harness specialized for knowledge work and designed to empower agents to adapt to an individual's working life.
Briana Layard is a Registered Nurse with a clinical background in general medicine, cardiology, and clinical trials. She has a Master of Health Science in Health Administration from U of T, and is currently a fellow in the 2025 Cohort of the AMS-Fitzgerald Fellowship in Human-Centred Leadership and AI. She is the Clinical Lead for Research and AI within the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre AI team. She is an Assistant Continuing Education Instructor at UHN’s Michener Institute of Education for the AI in Nursing Practice Course.
Ingrid O'Dwyer leads deployment of agentic workflows in clinical trials at Sanofi. She earned her PhD in Biochemistry at the University of Toronto, where she focused on novel biochemical and AI-based drug screening approaches. She has since moved across to the Development side of pharma R&D, where she led AI initiatives across the different stages of clinical trials.
Moderator
Elly Zhou Elly Zhou is a final-year PhD candidate at the University of Toronto, where she develops AI-powered digital twins of human organs to advance therapeutic evaluation. She also serves as Director of Scientific and Technical Strategy at The Human Puzzle. Her work bridges biomedical research, AI, and translational science, bringing a research-driven perspective to discussions on moving healthcare innovation into real-world practice.
