001 music law
001 music law
a discussion on the legal stuff nobody teaches musicians.
001 is open to musicians of all levels ✰ hobbyist, emerging, professional & anyone music-curious ✰ whether you're an instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, producer or just starting out, we'll be talking all things music law ── .✦ royalties, rights, deals, the fine print that decides who actually gets paid.
what we will cover:
⭑ IP basics ⊱ at what point does an idea become yours?
⭑ the lifeline of a song ⊱ how rights apply at every stage, from conception to release to distribution to streaming to sync.
⭑ label and artist contracts ⊱ breaking down what you are actually signing.
⭑ music law & AI ⊱ what we know so far.
as always, our aim is to make law understandable and digestible, sharing our perspective to better the artist's position.
joining us is Constanze Kopf, who knows music from both sides, as a classical pianist, violist and as a Senior Associate at Scheuermann Westerhoff Strittmatter in Berlin, a firm working across music, media and IP law, she advises artists on music, media, copyright, trademark and employment matters.
Constanze will be walking us through the music law landscape, what to know, what to watch for, and what most artists find out the hard way.
this is principle-based education, not 1-1 legal advice. please come with questions, even better if you can submit them before the session here.
this session will be taught in english.
