About Event

Dr. Gennady Pekhimenko isn’t just teaching the future of computing. He’s building it. Join South Park Commons for a fireside chat tracing his leap from research to acquisition.

A computer science professor turned founder, Dr. Pekhimenko built CentML, raised venture funding, sold the company to NVIDIA, and now leads NVIDIA’s AI Systems Software team, all while continuing to teach as an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto.

The University of Toronto & South Park Commons are convening researchers, engineers, and early-stage founders for an in-depth conversation on how the frontiers of research shape the future of technology.

Dr. Gennady Pekhimenko is the senior Director of AI Systems Software at NVIDIA, formerly Co-Founder and CEO at CentML. Dr. Pekhimenko is also an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto, CS department and (by courtesy) ECE department, where he is leading the EcoSystem (Efficient Computing Systems) group, and also a Faculty Member at Vector Institute and a CIFAR AI chair.

Before joining University of Toronto, he spent a year in 2017 at Microsoft Research in Redmond in the Systems Research group. He received his PhD from the Computer Science Department at Carnegie Mellon University in 2016. Pekhimenko is a recipient of Google Scholar Research Award, VMware Early Career Faculty Grant, Amazon Machine Learning Research Award, Facebook Faculty Research Award, Ontario Early Career Award, and Connaught New Researcher Award. He was also inducted into the ISCA Hall of Fame and won several MICRO Top Picks Awards. His research interests are in the areas of computer architecture, compilers, and systems for machine learning.
