​Swiftly

​Phil Cline will share some of his work on assisting transit agencies with better drawing and dissemination of bus detours at Swiftly, Inc.

​WalkNYC

​In May, Joe created WalkNYC, an app that tracks which blocks you've walked. He built it as a personal project while trying to walk every block in Manhattan. Since launch over 25,000 New Yorkers have started using WalkNYC to stay active and explore the city.

​About the Speakers

​Phil Cline
Software Engineer, Swiftly

​Phil Cline is a Brooklyn-based software engineer originally from Toronto who has worked in the transit industry for over 7 years and has a lot of experience with transit data standards like GTFS and GTFS-RT.

​Joe Puccio
Creator, WalkNYC and Founder Coursicle

​Joe Puccio is a designer and programmer based in NYC. He is the founder of Coursicle, an app used by millions of college students to manage their class schedules and assignments.

A central focus of Joe’s work is running his companies ethically and building products that are fundamentally beneficial to people’s lives. At Coursicle, all employees receive the same salary, and profits are split among employees at the end of each year.

Joe graduated from UNC Chapel Hill in 2016 with degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science. He writes about design, technology, and other ideas at joepuccio.com.

​The Center for Urban Science + Progress (CUSP) at NYU Tandon is an interdisciplinary center dedicated to applying science, technology, engineering, math, and social sciences to serve urban communities worldwide.

​Founded as a partnership between NYU and the City of New York, CUSP leads research, educational, and entrepreneurial initiatives that advance the science of cities. By applying novel insights to urban issues, we develop data- and technology-driven approaches that drive positive impact. With an additional focus on training future leaders, CUSP offers interdisciplinary academic programs in applied urban science and informatics for graduate students and professionals.
