Holocene House: Tour of an award-winning Sustainable Home
Come on an exclusive tour of Holocene House, an award-winning sustainable home that is opening its doors for a special Climate Action Week tour.
Designed by CplusC Architects + Builders, the house is like being in nature — water flows through like a rainforest creek, and every room opens to the outdoors. It is the first home in Australia certified by the Active House Alliance, a global standard for buildings that balance comfort, health and environmental performance.
Its owners Karin and Jurgen will run the tour with Clinton Cole from CplusC Architects + Builders talking through the design process in designing a sustainable home.
Sustainability has been thought through from every aspect, from creating a climate-resilient water system that does not require mains supply to being powered by renewable energy making the home completely self-sufficient. A canopy of plants above the house creates a beautiful veil that shades the home naturally.
This intimate tour is limited to 20 attendees. As the home is lived-in, we appreciate your respect for the residents and their space throughout the visit.
This event is organised by Glimpse, bringing you one-of-a-kind, inspirational sustainability experiences.
Note:
- Street parking is limited, however, is on the same street as Shelley Street carpark
- Public transport (Manly Wharf) is a 25 minute walk
- Accessibility: The property has a steep driveway, two flights of stairs and rocky steps throughout garden area so is not wheelchair or pram friendly.

“We imagined a beautiful Climate Positive house that inspires others. Our goal is for our home to generate more energy by 2050 than was used to create and operate it. This includes material production, construction, operation and eventual disposal. It’s ambitious!”
- Jurgen, owner
