Enhancing Wildfire Resilience in India (and tropical forests): Integrating Science, Communities, and Innovation - LCAW2026
Wildfires are becoming an increasingly important challenge across tropical forest regions, affecting biodiversity, carbon storage, water resources, and the livelihoods of millions of people. Yet much of the global conversation on wildfire management continues to focus on boreal and temperate ecosystems.
This event will explore how India is addressing wildfire risks through integrated approaches that combine government leadership, community engagement, scientific research, Indigenous and local knowledge, and technological innovation. Bringing together experts from government, civil society, academia, and the technology sector, the discussion will highlight lessons from India's tropical forest landscapes and explore opportunities to strengthen wildfire resilience across tropical regions globally.
Speakers from Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), Environmental Defense Fund India, IPAM, CTrees, Queen Mary University of London, Keystone Foundation, and the Government of Tamil Nadu will discuss how science, policy, traditional knowledge, and innovation can work together to support biodiversity conservation, climate resilience, and community well-being.
