Cultivating Creationships: AI for Community Good
A weekly imagine-a-thon for creative good. Come build the next generation of ideas this world needs.
Sunday evenings, the back room of a vegan restaurant on East 6th Street fills with people drawn to the intersection of positive social change and new technology. Four hours later, we've met each other, ideated together, and built something real. Some teams form for the night. Some keep meeting, sunday after sunday, building what belongs in the future we want to live in.
We don't curate the guest list. Past weeks brought together a doula, a prompt engineer, a high school teacher, a muralist, and someone restoring old radios. The room simply takes the shape of whoever shows up. One tool we use is “vibe coding”: our new capacity, with AI, to build applications and digital projects with natural language in the form of text prompts.
That said, there are many ways to create and create with others.
How the afternoon unfolds: For those interested and able to join early, we provide a "vibe coding 101" workshop from 3:30-4:30 to help folx newer to these modalities get more comfortable with and oriented to them.
Otherwise, everyone arrives between 4:30-5 pm to we settle in, order something, say hello, and start to get to know each other.
At 5pm, we start with someone sharing about something they can’t stop thinking about – a concept or possible solution to a conundrum – then leading us through an activity they hope can be valuable individually and collectively.
Then, we pitch projects - however formed or unformed. Teams cohere naturally around what sparks interest. Then we build, we nosh, and finally share what we've made.
What we’re actually doing: We are practicing prototyping and building new worlds. The world outside is largely playing a finite game, optimizing for extraction, scale, and speed. For these few hours, we try to learn from and with each other in order to step out of and away from that – hopefully in ways that permeate the rest of our weeks.
We practice creative attention, trust, and infinite thinking. We focus fiercely alongside people who think nothing like us. We sit shoulder to shoulder with erstwhile strangers (who become community members), share our imagination, and take steps toward creaitng something better together.
We call the relationships that come from this creationships.
And each experience looks a little bit different.
This week · #12: Frequent member Danielle Gauthier introduces her practice of "technomancy" – working with technologies usually used for business and profit to divine healing solutions, rather than extractions. She will share concepts related to service as care, as art, and as autonomy (as well as about her experiences Creationshipping).
Please try to arrive on time, and to stay for the shareout!
