Collage Workshop by Yooyeon Nam
Collage Workshop
Join artist Yooyeon Nam for Assemble Your Alien, a hands-on collage and painting workshop inspired by her original oil paintings.
Participants will create their own unique characters using printed character elements from Yooyeon's artwork and then paint custom backgrounds to bring their creations to life. Through collage, painting, and storytelling, participants will explore themes of identity, otherness, resilience, and imagination.
This workshop is open to all ages and skill levels. No prior art experience is needed, and all materials will be provided.
Each participant will leave with a one-of-a-kind artwork and a new perspective on how personal stories can be expressed through art.
About the Artist in Residence
Yooyeon Nam is an oil painter whose original characters, round-faced, expressive, and unsettling, explore the psychological landscape of migration, displacement, and outsider experience. Her work draws on Korean artistic traditions while engaging with the surreal and the absurd to capture what it feels like to navigate a new world. At Governors Island, she is developing The Alien Multitude, a monumental multi-figure painting exploring immigrant solidarity and collective resilience. instagram.com/yooyeon_nam
