What if instead of 5 months to answer a health research question, it took just 45 minutes?
Co-sponsored by UCSD Health Sciences, UC San Diego Health, UC San Diego School of Medicine, Institute for Applied Health Intelligence (AHI), the Joan & Irwin Jacobs Center for Health Innovation (JCHI), Altman Clinical and Translational Research Institute (ACTRI), Center for Health Equity Education and Research (CHEER), Division of Biomedical Informatics (DBMI), and our industry sponsor, Medeloop.
Finding data, securing access, getting IRBs, cleaning datasets, running analysis, and iterating often stall promising clinical hypotheses and potential research. UC San Diego Health Sciences via the Institute for Applied Health Intelligence with the support of VC Carethers, CEO Maysent, Dean Jung is partnering with Medeloop, an agentic analysis platform that compresses the research pipeline, into less than an hour using natural language querying. This event is relevant to curious minds that want to advance health and seek to ask the questions!
All Health Data Research Competition participants will receive one month of free platform access to explore large-scale, all-payer claims data (HealthVerity) spanning millions of longitudinal patient records through Medeloop’s innovative platform. No coding experience required.
Event Structure & Key Sessions
Virtual General Intro Session (Friday, October 23, 4-5:30 pm | Virtual): Introduction to Medeloop’s AI analytics platform, data set orientation, and introduction of the challenge
Health Data Challenge (‘one week’ October 23-29, ad hoc | Flexible/Virtual): Work solo or in teams of up to four. Drop-in virtual office hours and technical support available 24/7 throughout the week. Expected lift~ 2-3 hours total with a short analysis brief and 5-minute presentation as the final deliverable.
Submission (Thursday, October 29, midnight| On-line): Submit the final project
Closing Session & Awards (October 30 at Noon – 1pm| Hybrid Virtual and ACTRI): Project showcases, live peer review, and awards ceremony

Who Should Participate:
Eligibility: UC San Diego faculty (campus and Health Sciences), medical students, residents, fellows, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, biostatisticians, and staff. No advanced coding experience required.
