Shaping AI's Impact on Billions of Lives

​Like any transformative technology, AI has the potential to be a double-edged sword, leading either toward significant advancements or detrimental outcomes for society as a whole.

The AI community is at risk of becoming polarized to either take a laissez-faire attitude toward AI development or to call for government overregulation.

This talk Finale Doshi-Velez, Herchel Smith Professor of Computer Science at Harvard University, will discuss some of these conscious and proactive steps: 

How can we ensure that AIs are effective augments, not replacements? 
Provide us interesting and valuable information while still maintaining our agency? 
Support the care and connection work of doctors and teachers and other human-facing professions by removing the drudgery?
By thinking carefully about the ends we wish AIs to help us achieve, we can maximize the upsides of AI and minimize its downsides.
