Second Brain AI Salon #12 — From Intelligence to Presence: Building AI Companions with Memory, Voice & Personality

Date: Friday, October 23, 2026

Time: 4:00 PM – 5:30 PM PDT

About the Salon and Conversation

What makes an AI feel less like a tool and more like a continuing presence in our lives?

As AI moves beyond text-based chat, a new generation of products is exploring voice interaction, multimodal intelligence, persistent memory, and personalized experiences. The challenge is no longer just making AI smarter—it is designing systems that understand context, adapt over time, and interact with people in ways that feel natural and meaningful.

At this Second Brain AI Salon, we welcome Polly Lau, Founder of PoliSyntia, to share her work on Petal, an early-stage AI companion prototype exploring voice, personality, emotional interaction, and personalized experiences.

Together, we will explore how memory and multimodal AI can support continuous, contextual, and human-centered interactions—and what it takes to turn an engaging prototype into a useful product.

What to Expect

Practical Product & Engineering Insights: Deep dive into ambient UI, memory architecture, voice latency, and emotional design.

Live Prototype Demo: Experience Petal in action to ground our technical trade-off discussions in real product decisions.

Interactive Community Discussion: Connect with founders, builders, and researchers working on agentic interfaces and personal AI.

Conversation Topics

Beyond the Chatbot: Designing AI for continuous presence rather than isolated transactions.

Memory, Personality & Personalization: Maintaining continuity without making incorrect or uncomfortable assumptions.

Voice & Multimodal Interaction: Making interactions feel natural, responsive, and emotionally attuned.

From Software to Physical AI: Challenges and opportunities when an AI companion transitions to a physical desktop device.

From Prototype to Product: Validating real user needs, building long-term trust, and driving daily retention.

Who Should Attend

AI Product Managers & Designers building ambient, conversational, or agentic interfaces.

Engineers & Researchers working on multimodal LLMs, voice latency, persistent memory, or physical AI.

Founders & Investors exploring the next wave of consumer and companion AI applications.

Second Brain AI Salon

Exploring memory, intelligence, and human–AI collaboration — one conversation at a time.

AI is becoming more capable every day. But as AI becomes more intelligent, one fundamental question becomes increasingly important:

How can AI understand context, learn from experience, and collaborate with humans over time?

Second Brain AI Salon is a weekly gathering in San Francisco bringing together AI builders, founders, engineers, researchers, educators, and independent thinkers for open conversations about the future of AI memory, agents, intelligent systems, and human–AI collaboration.

Across eight Fridays, we are exploring a broader question:

How does AI evolve from a powerful tool into an intelligent collaborator?

Each week approaches this question from a different angle — from memory and education to agents, software creation, human–AI collaboration, and ultimately the communities and systems that will shape the next generation of Silicon Valley.
