Unfolding the Image: The Architecture of the Accordion Book with Tony Bellaver 12-1 PM
Ever wondered how to turn your loose prints into a professional, cohesive object? In this demo, I’ll take you through the assembly of a classic accordion fold—a versatile, glue-bound structure perfect for small-edition artist books. Using eight platinum palladium prints and a few essential hand tools, I’ll demonstrate the construction of an 8-page accordion artist book. From the rhythmic "snap" of the bone folder to the surgical precision of hand-cut type, learn the tactile skills required to create limited-edition art objects.
Hands-on Cyanotype-making with Kari Varner 1-3PM
Try your hand at one of the oldest photographic processes, cyanotype, with artist Kari Varner. Feel free to bring objects of varying opacities – plant matter, feathers, negatives, fabrics, and more – to use to make cyanotype photograms. (Kari’s cyanotype work is on view at The Halide Project in conjunction with the 20/20 Photo Festival.)
‘Zine-making with Andrew Piccone 3-4PM
Participants will have the opportunity to create ‘zines of their own in this hands-on demo. Philadelphia photographer Andrew Piccone leads a ‘Zine Making demo table. Participants will get a quick rundown on using ‘zines to share their photo work and have the opportunity to create, fold, cut, and staple a single-copy ‘zine on the spot.
