Sowing Memories: A Birthday Clean-Up & Planting for Ana
The Event
Saturday, September 5th, is Ana’s birthday. To celebrate her life, her fierce love for the environment, and her dedication to water conservation, our neighborhood is coming together to clean up the green belt near Monarch View Park and plant a massive sea of drought-tolerant Texas bluebonnets.
Ana passed away in April 2026 at just 33 years old after a courageous fight against High-Grade Neuroendocrine Carcinoma (HG NEC). Because rare cancers like HG NEC desperately need more spotlight and funding, we are combining this community effort with a fundraiser for the Neuroendocrine Tumor Research Foundation (NETRF).
Join us as we roll up our sleeves, clean up our shared space, and plant a beautiful, water-wise spring bloom for Ana and our three kids to remember her by.
How the Cleanup Works
We are aligning this event with the City of Frisco’s clean-up logistics. Here is what you need to know:
Supplies Provided: We will have grabber tools, safety vests, gloves, black trash bags, and clear recycling bags ready for you at the check-in table.
Sorting Matters: Ana was passionate about recycling. We will be strictly separating trash into the black bags and plastics/aluminum into the clear bags.
Bag Drop: Once your bag is full, you will leave it tied up at our designated trail-edge drop zones. The City of Frisco Environmental Services team will swing by to collect them after the event.
What to Wear: Please wear closed-toe shoes, comfortable clothes you don't mind getting dirty, and bug spray.
The Timeline
8:00 AM – Check-In & Fuel Up: Grab your coffee, water, and tools at the welcome table.
8:15 AM – Welcome & Safety Brief: A quick word about Ana, the NETRF fundraiser, and safety instructions for the cleanup zones.
8:30 AM – The Clean-Up Sweep: We will fan out across the Labrador Run Drive hills and green belt to clear litter and separate recyclables.
9:45 AM – Seed Prep & Planting: We’ll transition from cleaning to planting. We have five pounds of Texas bluebonnet seeds. Kids and volunteers will help scatter the seeds and "stomp" them into the soil to ensure good seed-to-soil contact.
10:30 AM – Tool Return & Wrap Up: Return grabbers and vests to the check-in table and take a packet of bluebonnet seeds home for your own yard.
Support the Cause
This event is completely free. If you would like to support the fight against HG NEC, there will be QR codes at the welcome table to make a direct digital donation to Ana’s NETRF Memorial Fund.
