What’s your Thing? #003
Meet the people behind Berlin’s independent products, projects and practices.
What’s Your Thing? is a conversation series that invites some of the city’s most thoughtful designers, makers, artists and founders to share the stories behind what they do. Through live Show & Tell sessions, honest conversations and audience questions, we explore not only what people make, but why they make it, how they got there, and what keeps them going.
For this edition, we’re welcoming Berlin-based filmmaker and creator Karam Nwmlati. Karam’s work is rooted in people: in friendship, relationships, conversation and the connections that shape how we experience one another and, by extension, the city around us. From making online love letters to his friends to creating events that bring people together in real life, his work explores different ways of celebrating and creating connection.
Together, we’ll talk about relationships, friendship and the role connection plays in creative work, as well as what it means to make a living through storytelling and content creation. We’ll hear about Karam’s own path, the people and experiences that have shaped his work, and what happens when life, relationships and creative practice begin to overlap.
Whether you’re building something yourself or simply curious about the people shaping Berlin’s independent creative scene, stay afterwards for drinks, conversation and a browse through the Things showroom.
Schedule
Think less conference, more living room. We’ll begin with a Show & Tell, followed by an honest conversation, audience questions and drinks afterwards. It’s a chance to meet the people behind independent design in Berlin, discover new ideas and leave having met someone you probably wouldn’t have otherwise.
About the host
Ami Jessica Runge is a Berlin-based creative generalist working across design, strategy and storytelling. Influenced by a background in Critical Design, she is interested in design not only as a tool for communication, but as a way of questioning systems, encouraging participation and creating meaningful experiences. She collaborates with cultural institutions, nonprofits and growing brands to create thoughtful, idea-led work that’s both playful and purposeful. Alongside client work, Ami enjoys creating small capsule collections and self-initiated creative experiments, an interest that naturally led to co-creating Things and, now, What’s Your Thing? #002: a conversation series celebrating the people behind Berlin’s independent products, projects and businesses.
About Things?
Things was created to make space for creative encounters in person. Based at workish.berlin, a creative coworking space & maker lab in Neukölln, it’s a platform to discover the people, products and projects shaping Berlin’s independent creative scene.
Started by Lenny, Taylor and Ami, Things began as a marketplace for independent makers, a place to show, sell and celebrate small-run products, creative experiments and personal projects. As the community has grown, so has the idea. Alongside the evolving display, Things now hosts curated talks, meet-ups and creative experiences that bring people together through creativity, conversation and collaboration.
What’s your thing? Bring your curiosity, your questions, and maybe even the idea that’s been sitting in your head, waiting to be made.
