This month is National Black Business Month. It was started in August 2004 by Frederick E. Jordan Sr., an engineering firm owner, and John William Templeton, a historian and publisher. They created the annual observance to highlight the economic impact and needs of Black-owned businesses across the United States. We will learn about the history and the creators. We will also highlight some of our fave Black owned sustainable businesses.
Goals of the National Black Business Month
Highlight impact: Draw attention to millions of Black-owned businesses and their contributions to the economy.
Drive policy change: Address unique structural obstacles like access to capital and equal inclusion.
Encourage support: Remind consumers and public institutions to invest in Black entrepreneurs.
