Members profiling event: Cassinia & OFP
Come and hear from Paul (Cassinia) and Fred (OFP) about their respective ventures, the challenges they have faced and how they have overcome them so far.
Cassinia - Paul Dettmann is a sixth-generation Australian farmer, environmentalist, and entrepreneur with over 20 years of experience in the environment markets sector. He has worked in a number of countries throughout the Global South, particulaly in Ethiopia, and played a significant role with the World Bank in developing the first CDM forestry project in Africa. In 2003, Paul founded Cassinia Environmental, a land management company specialising in wilderness protection, ecological restoration, regenerative agriculture and social investment.
Cassinia now employs a team of 50 and has implemented over 120 conservation projects throughout Australia, purchasing and protecting more than 25,000 hectares of ecological significance. The vision is to see healthy, connected and productive landscapes where people and nature flourish. Cassinia is particularly focused on securing permanent conservation easements with the goal of seeing 30% of all land protected and managed for nature.
Open Forest Protocol (OFP) - Open Forest Protocol (OFP) was founded in 2021 to enable, validate, and deliver high quality carbon credits. OFP's mission is to open access to carbon financing for those who have been classically left behind by legacy systems and keep forests thriving in the ground by providing innovative, intuitive tools. Forest projects of any size anywhere on earth can measure, report, and verify their progress with no up-front costs using a digital interface and mobile app. Currently, 300+ forest projects, from large government initiatives to small landowners and indigenous communities, are active on the Protocol.
To contribute to the flourishing and trust of carbon markets, Open Forest Protocol is designed for decentralized forest data validation by a group of 30+ experts from across the world, enabling anonymous voting and fair verification. With their open source system, generating proof of impact, scaling nature, and increasing the quality of carbon credits is simple. Anyone can contribute in accelerating restoration efforts and biodiversity conservation, achieving collective climate action goals with ease and transparency.
