Ways of Holding
Ways of Holding
What holds us through becoming?
For the month of Pride, r y e New Bahru transforms into a temporary gallery, holding works by queer artists Chuen Kah Jun, Dylan Chan, Alvin Ong, and Suhui Hee.
Ways of Holding turns to queerness not as a fixed identity, but as something layered, relational, and continually becoming.
What do we inherit, reveal, wear, keep close?
What gives shape to the self as it changes?
Join us for an intimate afternoon with the artists and their works, accompanied by drinks and light bites. Guests will have the opportunity to view and purchase selected pieces, with proceeds supporting queer organisations.
Alongside the exhibition, r y e will also host a small museum gift shop — a curation of books from Epigram, artist-led objects, and one-of-a-kind pieces created specially for this activation.
This is a free event, with tickets available on a first come, first served basis. As this will be an intimate gathering, spaces are limited to 30 guests.
We hope you’ll join us to meet the artists, spend time with the works, and gather with us in celebration of Pride 🤍

About the Artists
Chuen Kah Jun is a photographer and visual artist specializing in staged photography and digital image post-production. He uses photography as a medium to tackle the nuances of identity, gender and sexuality, exploring these themes by adopting visual language from both surrealistic and fashion influences.
Dylan Chan is an artist based in Singapore whose practice spans photography, painting, and sculpture. Grounded in an image-centric approach, his work examines the relationship between the body, image, and space, treating images as sites that are layered, cropped, and materially translated to negotiate memory and intimacy.
Hee Suhui is a Singaporean transdisciplinary artist whose ethereal paintings live between the corporeal and the surreal. Working primarily with graphite and oil, she creates meticulous bodily scenes that border on the abject.
Alvin Ong is an artist whose paintings capture quotidian moments in surreal bodily compositions, exploring themes of intimacy, longing and hybridity. He lives and works in Singapore and London.
