About Event

Raises run on paperwork. Cap table, corporate records, contracts, employment and IP, financial reporting, a data room that holds up under scrutiny.

In startups without a CFO or a General Counsel, a good chunk of that sits with ops. We've got a lawyer and an accountant (who ran operations before he ran an accounting firm) to go through what to have in order before a raise starts, what investors ask for once it's underway, and what tends to cause delays in diligence.

No legal or finance background needed. Anything technical gets explained rather than assumed. 🙌

What we'll cover

📋 What "fundraise ready" means in practice, and what should be sorted before investors start looking

📊 The financial reporting and forecasting investors expect, and how to answer their questions

🔍 Setting up a data room, and the red flags in diligence that slow a round down

🤝 What ops should own versus founders, lawyers and accountants,

✍️ What happens operationally between agreeing a deal and actually closing it.

What you'll leave with

A working sense of what "fundraise ready" looks like, and where to start if you're not there yet.

You should join us if you're...

✅ Heading into a raise in the next few months

✅ Already mid-round, with questions stacking up

✅ At a company with no CFO, Finance Director or GC, so this work lands with you

✅ Yet to go through a raise and want to know what's involved before you do

You're unlikely to benefit if...

🚫 You're a CFO, finance lead or lawyer after technical or specialist fundraising content

🚫 Fundraising sits outside your remit

Meet your speakers

Helen Goldberg

Co-Founder & COO @ LegalEdge

Helen co-founded LegalEdge 15 years ago and is its COO.

Before LegalEdge, Helen was Head of Legal at various tech and media companies, having been persuaded to move in-house with a client from a large international law firm. (She still describes herself as a recovering M&A / Private Equity lawyer.)

An early member of the Operations Nation community, Helen is a big advocate for its role in supporting operations professionals. Helen is also a champion for flexible working, having been "let go" from a Head of Legal job whilst on maternity leave. (It happens more than you’d think.)

Helen also mentors and advises startups, scaleups, and their in-house lawyers.

Martin Brennan

Founder & Director @ Onside Accounting

Martin is CEO and Founder of Onside, where he leads a team of accounting and tax professionals supporting high-growth tech startups through the financial side of scaling. He also puts real effort into developing young professionals and mentoring the next generation, so that both Onside's clients and the profession keep thriving.

Natasha Morrison

COO at Frontline Ventures

Natasha Morrison is Chief Operating Officer at Frontline Ventures, overseeing all fund operations and finance, and building systems that keep the firm running at full speed.
Natasha has worked across technology and financial services as both an operator and founder. She was previously COO/CFO at WeFlex (an EV finance business), co-founder of Paid (a procurement software business) and, earlier in her career, was a finance lawyer and investment banker.
