What's Next For Our Neighbourhoods?
In the wake of Calgary City Council’s decision to repeal R-CG, this event brings together designers, developers, and policy thinkers to explore what comes next.
As the city continues to grow toward a population of 2 million, there's no longer a question of whether density is needed, but rather, how it can be delivered in a way that is thoughtful, predictable, and aligned with the needs of both residents and builders. 'What's Next for the Neighourhood?' will focus on lessons learned, emerging ideas, and ambitious paths forward for housing policy, design, and neighbourhood growth.
The event will feature a short presentation, followed by a panel discussion, Q and A and networking session. Participants include:
Alkarim Devani (MDDL) — the role of missing middle housing in addressing affordability
Kayla Browne (Bold Workshop Architecture) — designing gentle density in established neighbourhoods
Kate MacGregor (XYC Design + Development) — a proposed alternative land use framework linking density, design, and approvals
Chris Bell (Norfolk Housing) — the impact of downzoning on non-profit housing providers
Denys Robinson (Policy Expert) — introduction to a new coalition to implement change
This is an opportunity to engage with the ideas shaping Calgary’s next chapter, and to be part of a broader conversation about how our city can grow with clarity, quality, and intention.
