Jakarta: A Mirror of a Thousand Reflections — Exhibition Opening Night
Join SPUR and USF for the opening night of Jakarta: A Mirror of a Thousand Reflections – Dimensions, an exhibition that explores the complex, ever-evolving landscape of Jakarta through the lens of urban research and photography. A collaboration between scholar John Zarobell and photographer Pedro Lange-Churión, this exhibition builds on the themes of the Comparative Urbanism: Learning from Jakarta conference, held in August 2024 at SPUR, San Francisco.
Through layered visual and academic narratives, the exhibition invites visitors to engage with Jakarta not as an exoticized other, but as a living, breathing city confronting the global challenges of climate change, rapid development, and cultural transformation. Rather than offering definitive conclusions, the work bears witness to the textures of everyday life and the dynamic structures that shape Jakarta’s urban identity—encouraging reflection on how its experiences mirror those of cities around the world.
