Laser Cutting & Engraving

​Explore how the Sandbox’s laser cutter can turn a design into cut shapes and engraved surfaces. You’ll learn the basics of cutting and engraving, which materials are suitable, and how to work safely with the equipment.

​No previous experience is needed.

​This workshop counts toward your initial laser-cutter training. You’ll need to return for a separate final check-off before using the laser cutter independently.

​Who can attend
Open to UC San Diego affiliates only, including students, staff, and faculty. These workshops are not open to the general public.

​Before you arrive
You’ll need a Sandbox account before using the makerspace. If you don’t already have one, create your Sandbox account in advance so you can spend more time making when you arrive.

​If your plans change
Our workshops fill quickly, and places are limited. Please register only if you expect to attend, and cancel your Luma registration as soon as you know you can’t make it. That gives another member of the UC San Diego community a chance to participate.
