About Event

As our communications are pushed into the homogenous by influences like generative AI and marketing-first approaches, finding the nerve to write from a truth-based place is the writer's essential task in 2026.

Not least of all because it creates a proper record of what it feels like to be here now, but because every advancement has hinged on stories told by us, in our way, with weirdness and newness in the driver’s seat.

Over two nights, across two three-hour sessions, we'll come together as a group to discuss what makes writing beyond convention so critical – and look at how it works in spirited opposition to the dull, flattened shape of the proposed future of writing.

Details:

Between 6.30pm and 9.30pm across two nights, a 10-person workshop at North Fitzroy's FINO Books. Prior to meeting, all attendees will submit a work of writing up to 500 words to help drive group discussion.

On the night/s:

  • A short talk on the work of writing from the gut and resisting the expected

  • Workshopping of student pieces; live feedback, discussion and whatever comes from it as a group – considering shape, tone, voice, rhythm and narrative (each student will get half an hour's attention to their particular work on one of the nights, whether you prefer the conversation to be about the work itself or a more broad exploration of finding your voice)

  • Post-workshop, each attendee's writing and thinking is returned via email with edits, thoughts and key takeaways from the two nights incorporated

Snacks and drinks provided.

If you're First Nations or you're a concession card holder, let me know and we'll process a discounted ticket ($170) separately.
