About Event

Join our special December Climate Café where we'll unwrap joyful, sustainable ways to use what we already have. Explore the magic of borrowing and lending within your community, discover surprising items that aren’t as “throw-away” as they seem, and learn about the best resources for repairing everyday things.

We’ll also celebrate the charm of thoughtful re-gifting—because the perfect present might already be in your home. Come share ideas, swap stories, and spread sustainable holiday cheer!

This event is FREE but if you would like to make a donation to help us cover costs that would be wonderful!

Speakers:

Jane Hamilton: Jane Hamilton is an ISWA Climate Change and Waste Management Working Group Member who has been working in environmental and waste management for close to three decades. Her ground-level point of view is influenced by spending half of that time behind the scalehouse responding to the environmental and engineering challenges of landfill operations in Nanaimo on Vancouver Island. In 2021, she completed a Master of Science Degree in Environmental Practice with a final research paper on microplastics, a topic that she remains passionate about and drives her ambitions to help develop a circular economy.

Henry Sipos is a student at Vancouver Island University (VIU), majoring in Political Studies. In 2025 he was selected as a scholar for the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Scholarship (QES), which gave him an international internship opportunity in Saint-Louis, Senegal. During his time there he studied climate change impacts — especially how coastal communities, fishermen, women, and climate refugees are affected. After finishing his undergraduate degree at VIU, Henry plans to pursue a Master’s degree in architecture — with a focus on sustainable, adaptive, and space-efficient design.
