About Event

Join us for our Toronto Tech Week x Loop Tech series!

What we'll cover: How Loop uses Vercel's Next.js as an intelligent proxy layer to incrementally migrate from a legacy Netlify app — zero downtime, one route at a time. A practical playbook for teams stuck with legacy front ends who want to modernize without betting the business.

Key topics:

  • Next.js rewrites and middleware as a migration strategy

  • Intelligent routing: "route exists?" → Next.js, else → Netlify legacy

  • Handling authentication state (Cognito cookies) across two apps

  • Real gotchas: the non-ASCII cookie bug that broke production

  • GraphQL federation + Apollo Client as the unified data layer

Meet the presenter:

Ian Duke is a senior software engineer at Loop Financial, where he works on Next.js, React, and Apollo GraphQL. Before tech, he spent nine years in Flight Safety at a major airline, which is why he takes production incidents a little too seriously.

Come join us for a fun morning of learning, networking and starting the day strong.
