UBC Agentic Society #1: The Builders & Creators Meetup
βAbout Event Welcome to the very first meetup of the UBC Agentic Club! π
βWhether you've been vibe coding solo in your dorm or you're curious about how AI agents are changing software development β this is your starting point.
βSince we are just kicking things off, weβre skipping the formal, rigid workshop format. Instead, this is an intimate, hands-on dev meetup and build session. We'll gather around, dive into the latest AI coding ecosystems (including tools like Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, and more), and actually build stuff together. We'll explore how to use high-level planning tools and turn your terminal or IDE into an autonomous AI coding agent.
βSchedule (Extended for maximum build time!)
β6:00 PM β Hang out & Settle in: Meet your fellow builders.
β6:15 PM β Quick Intro: What agentic coding actually is (and why it's different from just chatting with an LLM). A quick tour of the current agent landscape.
β6:30 PM β Setup & "Hello World": We'll get your preferred tools running on your machine and run your first autonomous agent loop.
β7:00 PM β The Build Session (Hands-On): This is the core of the meetup. Sit down, use the tools, master prompt context, handle agent loops, and build a small project from scratch. We'll share tips and workflows to actually be productive.
β8:15 PM β Demos & Wrap-Up: Show what you built β no judgment, just vibes. Bragging rights (and maybe snacks) for the most creative build.
β8:30 PM β Event Close
βVenue
βUBC Campus. To be announced soon.
βWhat to bring:
βYour laptop (charged!)
βYour preferred development environment (VS Code, Cursor, iTerm, whatever works)
βNode.js or Python installed β we'll help if you get stuck
βRelevant accounts/API keys (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc. β we'll walk through signup if you don't have them)
βWho this is for: This first session is geared towards CS majors, developers, and hackers who want to use AI to write better code. If you know your way around a terminal and want to automate your workflow, you're exactly who we're looking for. No prior AI/ML experience needed β we'll start from zero, but we will be writing and generating code.
βCome hang, meet other builders on campus, and leave with real tools on your machine and something you actually built. First of many.
