Office Hours #14 – Object Storage First: RisingWave & JuiceFS Unplugged
For decades, building high-performance data systems meant relying heavily on local disks. As data scales to the petabyte or even exabyte level, managing local NVMe storage leads to operational complexity, high costs, and limitations on scaling.
Modern data infrastructure is moving toward an object-storage-first architecture. By using affordable and infinitely scalable cloud object storage as the main backing storage, new technologies can separate computing from storage, allowing users to save on infrastructure costs and reduce operational complexity.
In this special joint webinar, RisingWave and JuiceFS come together to explore the rise of the object-storage-first or the "diskless" ecosystem. Instead of treating object storage as a dumping ground for cold data, both projects were built from the ground up to use it as primary storage without sacrificing performance.
We will explore the architectural "why" behind both engineering teams' decisions, how object storage allows for true cloud-native flexibility, and finish with practical use cases on where and how to deploy JuiceFS and RisingWave to maximize your data stack.
