About Event

In August this year, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fled Bangladesh under intense pressure from a powerful movement led by young students. We will have a chance to talk about what this revolutionary moment means for Bangladesh along with the hopes and anxieties that come after toppling a corrupt, autocratic regime that held on to power for 15 years.

We will also have some warm food for a donation (suggested minimum €10) and refreshing drinks to raise funds for those impacted by recent devastating floods. We look forward to seeing you there!

How your contributions will support flood relief efforts in Bangladesh:

All proceeds from this fundraiser will be channeled through Nijera Kori to support their partners in the landless community of Polder 22 in Khulna district. Nijera Kori is a reputed local organisation that works with landless groups. They never impose a programme or activity unilaterally; all decisions and their implementation are made collectively, with both Nijera Kori and the landless groups sharing equal responsibility.

The recent floods have devastated Polder 22, damaging the entire year’s crops and breaking mud walls after the water receded. Hundreds of people have now taken shelter on the embankment. The community has consistently demonstrated their self-reliance and responsibility in the face of adversity. Here is a short video showing how Polder 22 recovered and rebuilt after Cyclone Amphan during the Covid-19 pandemic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0iRGVI-Jb_U.

You can also send your donations directly to the following account, where we are collecting all funds before sending them to Nijera Kori.
