About Event

It really is 20 years since we first did this. We were young and knew no better. We were heedless of the fun we would have and the friends we would make along the way.

A walking tour from Clerkenwell to Bloomsbury, taking in some fabulous old boozers on the way, and steeping ourselves in Mr Ackroyd's magisterial Biography of London.

The Peter Ackroyd Pub Crawl - not to be confused with The Peter Ackroyd Thames Walk - first took place in 2006, before Minimum Labyrinth began.

How to book your place

The walk is based on the works of Mr Ackroyd and so we do it to raise money for charity - the wonderful Trees for Cities. This walk will pay for the planting of nearly 200 urban trees. Once you have booked your place we will email you with a link to the Justgiving page for you to make your donation. We suggest £30 per person, or more if you can afford it, or less if this is a stretch.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the meeting point? Turn up at 1pm at The Old Ivy House, 166 Goswell Rd, London EC1V 7DT.

How do I get there? It's a walk from Farringdon, Old Street or Angel, or Buses 4 and 56 run past it, stopping at Percival Street and Pear Tree Street.

Where do we end up? The walk finishes at the Museum Tavern, 49 Great Russell Street, London WC1B 3BA, between Tottenham Court Road and Holborn stations.

How much walking is there? The total length of the walk is c. 7km with eight pub stops along the way. Or is it nine?

How long does the walk take? Eight hours - but it's a gentle amble. As is customary we'll stop for fish and chips in the evening. We won't stop for lunch so get to the Old Ivy House a bit earlier if you would like to line your stomach.

Is the walk suitable for wheelchairs? Yes. There are a few areas where steps will pose a mild challenge, and the pubs have variable accessibility, but you will have a large group with you who are always delighted to help surmount any challenges.

Are there going to be any other dates? You can sign up to the mailing list at Minimum Labyrinth to be the first to hear about future dates for this walk.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event? No. We suggest that this event is more suitable for over-12s.

What's the refund policy? This is a charity event, so tickets are not refundable, but if you can't make it let us know as soon as possible so that someone from the waiting list can take your place.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event? No, your name will be on the list.

Is Peter Ackroyd going to be there? In a sense, yes, along with Inspector Morse.
