โA Texas developer wants to put seven data center buildings โ roughly 1.7 million square feet โ on the reclaimed strip-mine land at Starpointe Business Park in Hanover Township. Attached to it would be its own 450-megawatt natural gas power plant, built to run the campus. Neighbors are raising air emissions, noise, light pollution, water use and health impacts, with homes sitting right beside it.
โHanover Township amended its data center ordinance in March. Prime filed its application in May. Residents are asking a fair question โ were the rules ready for a project this size?
โBut Washington County did not sit quietly. More than 200 people packed the Hanover fire hall. Dozens petitioned for formal party status, so they and their attorneys can sit at the table, question witnesses, and put the developer's claims on the record.
โThat is what local control is supposed to look like. Neighbors in the room. Questions answered before the shovels go in the ground. Decisions made in public, not behind closed doors.
