Lobbying and the UK’s Environmental Future: Evidence on Influence, Access and Accountability in Policy Making
At a time where political access, lobbying and influence are in the spotlight, the session is crucial in understanding how policy decisions with profound implications for the environment can better represent a wide range of perspectives. Representative, transparent and accountable decision-making is essential not only for the environment, but for the UK's status as a Sustainable Finance leader. Sustainable Finance requires clear policy direction, which risks being undermined by excess influence of certain sectors, and sometimes finance itself.
The expert speakers will present evidence on who is attempting to influence policy and how, as well as looking at vulnerabilities in emerging environmental battlegrounds in the age of AI, and how the overrepresentation of certain voices can influence the very psychology of policymaking itself. The session will be chaired by Siân Berry MP, who along with her Green Party parliamentary colleagues issues a voluntary quarterly disclosure of meetings with campaigners, lobbyists and other organisations, and is calling for every other MP to do the same.
Speakers include:
Lisa-Maria Tanase - Dr Lisa-Maria Tanase, El-Erian Institute of Behavioural Economics and Policy & Political Psychology Lab, University of Cambridge
Rose Whiffen - Senior Research Officer, Transparency International UK
Kamila Kingstone - Senior Policy and Campaign Lead, Spotlight on Corruption
Robert Magowan - Advocacy Manager, InfluenceMap
