Scope 3: What should companies fund, measure, and claim?
Scope 3 strategies often stall when climate ambition meets procurement, supplier constraints, and questions about what can be credibly measured and claimed.
This roundtable will examine one practical question: how should companies use carbon markets and related instruments to accelerate value chain decarbonization without overstating what those instruments achieve?
We will work through three decisions:
What should companies fund directly? Including supplier action, procurement standards, and logistics interventions.
Where can market instruments help? Including book and claim, insetting, and other mechanisms that may support action but do not automatically represent a Scope 3 reduction.
What should companies measure and claim? Including data, allocation, verification, and the distinction between emissions reductions, environmental attributes, climate contributions, and residual emissions management.
