About Event

Gil Hodges Community Garden invites you to celebrate World Anthotype Day with us! Participants will learn the basics of using the power of the sun to make prints, how to prepare natural dyes for prints, how to make anthotype prints with turmeric, and how to make prints using cyanotype paper. All materials will be provided! It is open to all ages but young children must be accompanied by an adult.

Anthotypes are photographic prints where paper is coated with plant pigment and bleached by the sun for hours or days. The UV light from the sun reveals the print. Cyanotypes are similar to anthotypes except an iron salt solution is used instead of plant pigment, and prints can be created in minutes. During the workshop, we will make prints of plants instead of photography negatives. This class will be led by Evelyn, who is a garden member and crafts enthusiast.

Thank you to NYRP and the Gil Hodges Garden community for their generosity and effort.

RSVP DOES NOT GUARANTEE ENTRY. ATTENDANCE IS FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED. MAXIMUM 10-15 PEOPLE.
