Art Gets a Little Strange After Dark.
It's First Friday.
But we're skipping the usual gallery crawl and heading somewhere considerably more interesting.
Alwun House is opening its annual Monsters Menagerie, an exhibition where monsters, imagination and the wonderfully weird side of the Phoenix art scene take over one of the city's most distinctive arts spaces.
And we're not just showing up and hoping 12 people can find somewhere to gather.
Seating for the opening is normally first come, first served, so PHX Social Club has made a sizable donation to Alwun House to secure three reserved tables exclusively for our group.
That gives us our own home base for the entire evening.
We'll meet at our tables at 6:30 PM, make introductions and spend some time getting to know each other before heading out to explore.
Here's How the Night Works
From there, it's pretty simple.
Explore the art.
Find something strange.
Find something cool.
Find something that makes absolutely no sense.
And if you discover something everyone else needs to see, come back to the tables and tell us about it.
That's part of the fun.
Our tables aren't just somewhere to sit. They're our home base for the night.
Head out and explore.
Come back.
Compare discoveries.
Send everyone else off to find whatever you just stumbled across.
Grab a drink.
Talk to some people.
Then head back out and see what you missed the first time.
By the end of the night, we'll either have discovered some incredible art or spent two hours trying to figure out what we were looking at.
Either outcome works for us.
What to Expect

This isn't a guided museum tour.
And we're definitely not going to march 12 people around looking at artwork together.
The reserved tables give us somewhere to actually be a social club—meet each other, hang out, explore at our own pace, share what we discover and come back together throughout the evening.
You could wander around First Friday trying to figure out where everybody is.
Or you could already have a table and 11 people waiting for you.
We prefer the table.
